Capturing Your Love Story: What Makes a Fun Wedding Film?

When you picture your Wedding day, what comes to mind? Probably not just the flowers or the table settings (though they looked amazing). It’s more likely the little things, right? Those deep belly laughs during speeches, your best friend ripping up the dance floor, or that moment when you caught your partner’s eye and smiled because you're both just so happy to be finally married.
That’s exactly what I believe a wedding film should be about. It’s not a stiff highlight reel showing how someone staged you on the day but it should be your story. Here's what I love to see couples doing on their day that really makes their film feel fun and totally them.
Dress reveal
One of the most powerful ways to capture real emotions is with a dress reveal. Sharing that moment with your bridal party or family members adds such a personal touch. By doing first looks, you get to relive and see your loved ones react in their own way to that moment. You might get happy tears (usually from the dads), you might get giggles, screams, inside jokes or all of the above. However they react, it will be a moment you want to watch all over again.
Garden games
Garden games are a brilliant way to bring that playful energy into your day. These are not just for children - in fact, it’s even better when the adults get involved. Watching your uncle try limbo or your friends battling over the most serious Jenga game you've ever seen is always a moment you'll want to remember.
Portraits
When it comes to family and group portraits, your Photographer might line everyone up in a straight line, but for video, movement is where it's at. I like to get creative with the bridal party shots especially - think walking together, your bridesmaids helping you sort out your dress, or your groomsmen running in to give you a big bear hug. It’s these natural, unpolished moments that show real relationships and make your video feel dynamic and really come alive.
Wedding breakfast entrance
This is always a big moment, everyone is in one place and it's the first time you're announced into the room with your new married names. Why not go for something a little extra? A great couple entrance instantly changes the vibe. Get a family member or close friend to introduce you, pick some upbeat music and walk (or dance) in like you’re the stars of the show, because you actually are! Get your guests on their feet, waving napkins, clapping and cheering!
Live music
Finally, nothing adds atmosphere quite like live music. It doesn’t have to be a full band either if that's out of budget or not your style. A live singer during your reception or even a saxophone player during your first dance, can totally transform the mood. Live music has a way of drawing people in, encouraging them to get up, dance and feel part of the day in their own way.
At the end of the day, your wedding film is so much more than a record of events. It’s a time capsule of emotions, energy and connection. When you look back on it years from now, or you're showing your children or grandchildren one day, you’ll want to feel like you’re right there again, in that moment! Laughing, dancing, crying (happy tears hopefully!) and celebrating alongside your favourite people.
So, if you’re ready to create a wedding film that’s as fun, emotional and totally unforgettable as your day truly deserves to be, let’s make it happen.
